Sunday Set List //34// are you excited yet...

I tell you what, I am starting to flat out excited about Easter coming...

We have so much going on creatively over the next few weeks I am barely able to contain myself. Great worship, great experiential elements all to glorify the Greatest One... Of all the days, of all the Sundays, of all the events, this is the main event. The reason "Why" (coming to our set list in four weeks):

This week at XC

Worship Set 1
No One Like You

Welcome and Greet

Worship Set 2
Your Love Oh Lord
Jesus Messiah
Mighty to Save

Message: Really interesting, really packed full of great stuff...

Worship Set 3
Sweetly Broken

So, this weekend had multiple challenges for the stage design (more on that Thursday after I process the details), I just keep reminding myself I am blessed to serve; no matter what happens. "Momma said there'll be days like this" Stage design before and after for today :

A couple of questions for you today.
How bright are your house lights during worship?
Are you excited about Easter yet?
Without Googling this, who sang "Momma said there'll be days like this"?
This is submitted along with several savvy singers at Sunday Set List//34// @ Fred McKinnon's blog.

Our youth is taking the Resurrection Day service. Don't know what to expect from them. I had Mighty to Save on the back burner this week, but it just didn't make it to the front.

Our house lights get dimmed to about 50% during the slower worship. They leave them up for the faster portion. I'm excited about Easter, because I'll be out of town for two weeks straight prior to Easter, and it'll be the first I'm back home. You got me on the trivia.

I'm in agreement with you on the tentativeness to introduce new songs. Recently our worship pastor just decided that he is sick of playing the same stuff (it does seem that way!) over and over again. So we're riding the change train as far as it will go while he's on it.

I am still loving your designs and experiential elements to go along with the great sets. Been a while since I actually commented and said it though :)

Easter will be great indeed - looking fwd to seeing what our KidPower kids have come up with for that too.

Our house lights are very low with the stage lights very high...concert atmosphere

And I just keep thinking of the John Lennon song "Nobody Told Me" for the Momma quote...so I've got no idea... :)

Thanks for stopping by. It means a lot.
Answer to the song "Momma Said That There'll Be Days Like This"...It's the Shirelles. I had to look it up.

@windbag thanks for the answers, particularly about the lighting.
Enjoy your vaca and don't forget to post if you visit other churches.

@brahafnersfa blow it out of the water! Love the idea…

@David Thanks again. I am passionate about where I serve. That’s what I am wanting lighting wiase for our worship. What it say in our OOS is houselights are at 25%, but it seems so bright. May need to post a blog about it.

House lights are a huge tool when planning services. We use lights very intentionally to indicate transition. During music we keep the house lights off and focus on some low stage lights. A darker room is actually one of those things that will statistically lead to greater participation in singing. We bring lights back up for the message but never to full house until the dismissal. This does two things: Draws your attention forward throughout service and gives a firm visual cue to the end of service.

@brianotte Darker room = more participation. That's what I thought. Same thing about loudness = more participation. Right? I am starting to research and present to our teams.
Thanks!

In answer to your questions:
Very excited about Easter!

We dim our house lights during worship.

I wouldn't have had a clue who sang "Momma said" :)

Thanks for sharing the great video! Love it!

You did a great job on the stage design! I can't wait to see what you'll come up with for Easter!

First things first - I thought at first that it was John Lennon who sang that line. Then I realized he said something like "nobody said there'd be days like this."
We had great services this weekend.
As far as house lights - we turn them all on. Our lighting is typical for 80's churches - not so good! This is something we are trying to address. $$$

We have the same issue for lighting. Drop ceilings and flourescents. Great for acoustics, bad on the eyes!

I love all these elements. Great stuff.

Loving the set design... and LOVING the set!

I prefer the house lights to be OFF completely and to work mostly with stage lights. I love the concert atmosphere because I want others to feel like they're not being watched while they're doing business with God. But... right now... we don't have that option - so SKYLIGHTS it is.

LOL!

I guess I should of said how dim. We dim them almost all the way probably about 75%. With very bright stage lights.

Yes, I am extremely excited for Easter. But, I'm a little anxious since I'm leading at one of our multi-sites and waiting to hear what songs we're keeping consistant at all three locations so I can pick the rest.

We keep the lights very dim at two sites and ugly extreme cafeteria bright at the third!!

What a great set! I am uber jealous of how new the songs are! Holy cow that looks great!
Our house lights are up but that doesn't really matter because in the design of our sanctuary they put in these 2 massive windows that span from floor to ceiling on either ends of the sanctuary. Pretty? Yes. Allow for any control over lighting? Little.
It's a huge disappointment for me. I wish we could do more.

The people in our choir really like the choir, and the congregation really likes the choir. We've only had a choir for a short time, and we only have about 20 people in the choir, but so far it's going well.

It's like anything, If you ,know what you're doing and you put enough into it, people will enjoy it. If not, they won't.

So has your congregation taken to "Jesus Messiah" like so many others have?
